Bachelor: Becca Says Relationship With Hayley Was Not A ‘Secret’

In a recent podcast episode former The Bachelor star Becca Tilley explained how she kept her relationship with long-time girlfriend Hayley Kiyoko “private” instead of a “secret“. The couple has been dating for a little over four years now but only just went public with their relationship. Bachelor Nation had been suspecting this couple for a while, as fans had spotted the pair together for years now, but it wasn’t officially confirmed until earlier this month. Hayley released a Bachelor-themed music video for her new queer anthem For The Girls, with a surprise appearance from Becca at the end. The two share a knowing look, and for Bachelor Nation, that was all the confirmation they needed.

Fortunately, though, Becca took to Instagram the next day to post a montage of the ladies throughout their years together, finally publicizing their relationship. Prior to dating Hayley, Becca was on Chris Soules’ season of The Bachelor and was even the runner-up. From then on, Becca had a brief relationship with contestant Robert Graham, but was thought to be single until in she revealed in 2019 that she’d been dating a secret someone for about a year. While fans now know it was Hayley, Becca kept the name and gender private until this past month. Since sharing the news with everyone, Becca has been more open than ever about her relationship.

On her own podcast, Scrubbing In with Becca Tilley & Tanya Rad, Becca discussed how Hayley and her navigated their relationship, “We were very much ourselves. We held hands in public. We kiss. If I met someone … I introduce her [as] my girlfriend, Hayley…I really made an effort to make sure that there was that distinction between private and secret.” This is something Bachelor Nation has confirmed, as throughout the years Hayley and Becca have been spotted kissing, cuddling up, and clearly being together in a romantic way. Despite this, Becca did joke that sometimes, though she would introduce Hayley as her girlfriend, people would believe she meant her best friend rather than her romantic partner.

Becca also confirmed that, while she is in love with a woman, she does not identify as a lesbian, saying, “Leading up to this point, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I’m gonna have to address, like, my sexuality, my label. And I was like, I’ve never connected with that.’” Becca went on to explain that looking back she always liked both the male and female leads of shows and movies, but, “When I met Hayley that was the first time I had that specifically for a woman.” While that leaves a plethora of labels still to choose from, Becca is opting out. She, like many in the community, is leaving that question unanswered.

The way Becca and Hayley have navigated their relationship is truly admirable. Despite the pair keeping their status private, they never kept it a secret. Becca and Hayley got to fully explore their relationship, with friends and family and all, just minus the general public. The couple even went to a few The Bachelor weddings, including close friend JoJo Fletcher’s.
