DeLorean’s Alpha 5 will benefit from the legendary brand name and a beautiful design that fans of the Back to the Future films will love. However, it seriously lags behind Tesla’s next-generation Roadster when it comes to performance. Neither car is shipping yet, with DeLorean targeting 2024 for production and Tesla launching its next sports car in 2023. Despite that, both have posted specifications that are pretty impressive.
DeLorean’s Alpha 5 manages 0 to 60 in just under three seconds, with a top speed of 155 miles per hour and a maximum range of at least 300 miles. As fast as that is, Tesla’s Roadster will leave it in the dust, cutting a full second off the 0 to 60 time and reaching a phenomenal top speed of over 250 miles per hour. Tesla also claims its sports car will have a staggering range of 620 miles on a single charge. While these are both incredibly powerful and stunning cars, Tesla has a massive pricing and performance advantage, while the DeLorean has undeniable appeal for movie fans.
