Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has received an official rating ahead of its May release. The latest Marvel offering follows in the footsteps of other MCU films and earned a PG-13 rating in the United States. The British Board of Film Classification has not yet rated the film.
The Motion Picture Association has shared its ruling on a disclaimer regarding certain aspects of the new film. They justified the rating due to “intense sequences of violence and action, chilling imagery and some language”.
The first Doctor Strange achieved the same score when it was released in 2016. However, at the time, it was “a sequence of start-to-finish sci-fi action and violence, and intense skirmishes” .
In the latest trailer for the film, we got a glimpse of what some of those “scary” images could be. This included a zombie version of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Steven Strange, as well as another shot of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff covered in blood.
However, not much has yet been announced about what will happen in the upcoming movie. Cumberbatch told Total Film in our latest issue: “It’s going to be a totally breathtaking and thrilling journey. It really is.”
He added: “The title is about the experience of watching it, I believe, and definitely doing it. There was a lot of craziness, a lot of multiverses and a lot of Doctor Strange.”
The movie’s running time was also confirmed after Fandango reported that it was 2 hours 6 minutes (126 minutes). That would make the MCU’s shortest film since Captain Marvel, released three years ago.
