Dune: The Sisterhood, the upcoming prequel series to the sci-fi saga, has named a new director for the first two episodes.
Johan Renck will now direct the pilot episode of the series, initially set as director. sand hill director Denis Villeneuve and part 2. He is also an executive producer. Diane Ademu-John is a screenwriter and showrunner – previously executive producer of shows like The Haunting of Bly Manor, Empire and The Originals.
The series will take place 10,000 years before the events of Dune and will follow the Harkonnen brothers (the ancestors of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, played by Stellan Skarsgård in Villeneuve’s film) taking charge of the forces that threaten the future of humanity and constitute the powerful. The sect known as the Bene Gesserit.
Paul’s mother (Timothée Chalamet) in the 2021 film Lady Jessica Atreides, played by Rebecca Ferguson, is a member of the Bene Gesserit and possesses mental and physical abilities which she passed on to Paul.
Renck directed all episodes of the HBO miniseries Chernobyl, which won him an Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Limited Series. He has also directed music videos for artists such as David Bowie, Madonna and Beyoncé, as well as episodes of shows such as Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Vikings. Next up for Renck is Spaceman, a sci-fi movie for Netflix starring Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano.
