Everything We Know About Disney’s League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Perhaps wisely, Disney–or more accurately, 20th Century Studio–is developing The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot not for a theatrical release, but for Hulu. 20th Century owns the film rights to the property and it’s been working on a reboot since 2015, trying to crack the best way to approach it, including a potential all-female League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Now, the studio apparently has, or at least feels it has enough of a handle on it to confirm the reboot. Whether it will also get a theatrical release alongside its Hulu premiere is unknown, however.

League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Story Details

Reportedly, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot will be much more faithful to the comics than the 2003 movie. While it’s not 100% certain what that means, it’s likely that there will be no new characters shoehorned into the reboot, such as Tom Sawyer and Dorian Gray, who were not in the comics but were added to the 2003 adaptation. In the original comics, Mina Murray (Harker) is tasked by British Intelligence to put together a team, which then stops a war between criminal masterminds Fu Manchu and Professor Moriarty. There are some clear issues with the problematic, racist characterization of Fu Manchu, but modernizing his character or replacing him with someone else would easily allow the movie to still stick to the story of the comics.

League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Release Date Prediction

At the moment, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen reboot appears to be in the earlier stages of development. Justin Haythe has been tapped to pen the script, and it also has producers on board, but there’s not yet been any word on casting or a director. If Haythe’s script moves forward smoothly and gets the greenlight, it’s entirely possible that the reboot of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen could find its cast and start filming by the end of the year. At the very earliest, however, the reboot likely wouldn’t hit Hulu until late 2023. More likely, though, this new take on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will be released sometime in 2024.
