Gabriel Frizzera: Silver Surfer has always been my favorite, but I have a soft spot for many characters that introduced me to Marvel, such as the modern-era X-Men and Fantastic Four. But if you ask me the question another day, my answer may change. I’ve always been thrilled to introduce unknown champions to our players and have the chance to update them for a new audience. I think our team has done very well in this area and we are always on the lookout for new characters from the darker layers of Marvel.

Gabriel Frizzera: Comics, hands down. Nothing against the movie versions, they work great on the big screen but I think the comic is the root of it all. Even the best movie costumes are the ones that change them up enough for their setting while successfully adapting the stark contrast of the comics. We do the same, but our game allows for more color and exaggeration.
Adding content to popular stories is exciting for fans, but creators have their favorites too! What Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness What content excites you the most?
Gabriel Frizzera: This is the movie I’ve been waiting for the most since it was announced. Without being too specific, knowing what I know of some of Wanda’s most dramatic moments in the comics and how that will affect the nature of reality in the Marvel Universe, I can’t wait to see how the arc of Wanda evolves. I’m also looking forward to seeing the MCU Illuminati and how they’re going to deal with the big issues, the problematic ways of dealing with doomsday issues.
When creating Wong, were you worried it would overshadow Doctor Strange’s appearance in the game? What design choices did you make to help it stand out?
Gabriel Frizzera: No, this is Wong’s time to shine. He’s a character who’s grown a lot since his comic book debut, and the movies have a lot made him a badass mystic in his own right. His powers really shine in our game, and he’s different enough from other mystics that players will want to add him to their roster.

Gabriel Frizzera: We have a very talented team of writers who create stories for monthly events. But no matter where the material is inspired, we always make sure it’s our own spin and the story fits into the ongoing saga we’ve been creating over the past 7 years in our own version of the marvel universe.
Do these stories affect the design direction of the introduced characters? Marvel Contest of Champions?
Gabriel Frizzera: Exactly. Whenever a new character is added to the contest, we give equal weight between game design needs (what role this character can play against certain dominant characters in the meta, etc.) and representing the true spirit of the character . /his history. Sometimes these characters are pretty well-known for their details (people have expectations of how characters like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, etc. should act), while other times we have a few appearances to browse and fill. a full set of moves, complementary abilities, and more. We really have fun with the details and when it comes to original characters, we create a complete package between visuals, background and game design.

The winning formula for Marvel Games is to find the right partners and let the Marvel Universe tell its own story in this huge playground, and Contest is a pioneer in this direction. We have a great relationship with our friends at Marvel, and speaking the same language as us really speeds up the creative process.
What was your favorite part of the job? Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Narrative?
Gabriel Frizzera: It’s weird and chaotic on the surface, but it’s also absolutely fundamental to the future of the MCU. This new phase has the potential to undermine its predecessors in scope and ambition, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here!

We have great rapport with our friends at Marvel and speaking the same language the way we do really supercharges the creative process.
What has been your favorite part of working with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness story?
Gabriel Frizzera: That it’s at the surface so weird and chaotic, but at the same time is so absolutely foundational for the future of the MCU.
