God of War Ragnarök Merchandise Hints At Game’s Release Date

A newly-revealed batch of God of War Ragnarok merchandise hints at the highly-anticipated sequel’s mysterious release date. The second installment in Santa Monica Studio’s epic Norse saga was announced back in 2020, but there is still no confirmed release date for Kratos and Atreus’ next adventure. Recently God of War Ragnarok was rated in Korea, and the appearance of merchandise makes an impending announcement seem even more likely.

The God of War franchise was once known for its hack-and-slash gameplay and Greek mythological setting, but the series’ 2018 installment served as a fresh start for protagonist Kratos. The story transitioned into Norse myth, and gameplay adopted a more methodical action role-play system. The game tells the story of Kratos and his young son Atreus, who find themselves embroiled in a godly tale that shapes the future of the Norse world. God of War Ragnarok is set to conclude this story in truly epic fashion, though little has been seen of the sequel’s gameplay or story. Developer Santa Monica Studio has insisted upon a 2022 release date for God of War Ragnarok, however, so the title should launch in the later half of this year.

Twitter user The_Marmolade (via GamingBolt) recently shared a glimpse at some newly-revealed God of War Ragnarok merchandise. The large assortment of stylish clothing items and adorable plush toys, available for pre-order on GeekyZone, will become officially available in September and October. These dates suggest that God of War Ragnarok is likely planned for release within that timeframe, too, with merchandise launching slightly before or after the game itself. By exclusively depicting well-known characters like Kratos, Atreus and Mimir, the clothing and plush toys sadly fail to shed any new light on God of War Ragnarok’s story.

While little new gameplay has been revealed since September 2021, God of War Ragnarok accessibility features were recently detailed by Santa Monica Studios. The PlayStation blog post reveals that the fantasy epic is striving to match The Last of Us Part 2 in terms of accessibility by adding in-depth features like a High Contrast color mode and an adjustable user interface. This blog post also includes short gameplay moments and cinematic cutscenes to demonstrate these various options, but fans are still waiting for an actual God of War Ragnarok gameplay trailer.

Following the success of the series’ 2018 entry, God of War Ragnarok has become one of the most highly-anticipated games of 2022. While no release date has been given yet, a glimpse at new merchandise suggests that an announcement from Santa Monica Studios may be imminent. Based on the merchandises’ release window, God of War Ragnarok should be taking gamers on a mythic journey by November.
