GTA 6 news, official Rockstar updates, and all the rumors

GTA 6 News

GTA 6 is officially coming and is currently in development. Earlier this year, developer Rockstar Games confirmed this. “Active development continues for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.” However, instead of a full explanation, this was a small note in a recent blog post.

So many rumors and gossip about GTA 6 have been circulating over the years that it’s surreal to see anything officially confirmed. We’ve received leaks suggesting elements of the game’s story, setting, features, and other details, so it’ll be exciting to see Rockstar’s next reveal.

The last piece of information fans received was from a Rockstar job listing that pointed to incredible details and “large-scale destruction” for GTA 6. Also, it’s worth noting that GTA fans think this San Andreas Easter Egg is their first look at GTA 6, so there could be some kind of official reveal later this year.

But that’s not all. Read on for all the GTA 6 rumors circulating so far.

What is the release date of GTA 6?

Long story short: if Rockstar had announced GTA 6 the day after Red Dead Redemption 2 was released (October 26, 2018 – write in your diary), then based on the historical time lags between GTA console announcements and its release, we would have waited 22 months – i.e. August 2020. Rockstar of course didn’t. In fact, it didn’t do anything until February 2022, when Rockstar confirmed it was working on the game. That makes any release window hard to predict. But a new leak says it won’t arrive until late 2024.

We have approximated some dates, but this table shows you the difference between

There have been some rumors about potential GTA 6 locations, including returning to Vice City or the whole of the United States.

The latest rumors, which arrived in June 2021, suggest that the GTA 6 setting will be a modern recreation of Vice City – a rumor later confirmed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

In March 2021, Tom Henderson, a tipster with a great past, said that GTA 6 would be set in the modern era. Asked by someone on Twitter, Henderson they retweeted the question and he just said, “That wasn’t 80s and that’s modern.”

This was supplemented with the image of a house, which apparently appeared in the remastered edition of GTA San Andreas. The picture of the house was a brand new addition to the game, hinting that it was a mockery for GTA 6 set in what is now Vice City.

Yet in 2020, a major GTA 6 leak surfaced. reddit. User JackOLantern1982 provided a total of 23 details about Rockstar’s upcoming game. Along with confirming it’s in development, they say the codename is Project Americas as the game will be set in multiple countries: namely, Brazil in a fictional city based on Rio de Janeiro, and Vice City in the United States. -United. The report suggested that the relevant narrative would be heavily influenced by Netflix’s Narcos (an outstanding series about the origins of the cocaine trade).

The leak suggested that you’ll build your own drug empire using a mechanic similar to Vice City Stories, but much more in-depth – more like GTA Online, but bigger than it. Your vehicle will function like the horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing you to store your gear in the trunk instead of hiding it for your character. According to this leak, the game will be set in the 1970-80s when buildings changed/deteriorated over time and weather was another major concern.

Another potential Fireden leak suggests the game is a modern Liberty City setting for GTA 6, reminiscent of its early TV show The Wire. It also suggests it’s based on a drug ring, making it a consistent theme for all of the leaks.

A few years ago, reports of a London setting for GTA 6 came from Rockstar Games, potentially putting the next game on the brink of its own studio. Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser said in an interview with Polygon in September 2013:

“Right now, the DNA of GTA sounds like contemporary, American, English-speaking DNA, because that’s what has happened…until now.”

This has led many to speculate that the GTA could be inspired from outside or even return to the UK. However, Houser also said in an interview with The Guardian the same month that GTA would not be returning to London:

“To us, I feel like GTA London was cool back then, but games were more limited back then,” Houser said. “We would like to make a game in the UK these days, in London, whatever, but I don’t know if it will be a GTA game. I think there are so many great stories to tell about the UK. United, great environments to showcase, great game mechanics that could draw England to them – I just don’t think it’s necessarily going to be a GTA.”

According to a source who spoke to TechRadar in March 2016, Rockstar visited the Japanese capital a few years ago as a benchmark trip for a game called GTA: Tokyo. It looks like the idea for the game was eventually scrapped, but before that the studio met the locals, took a ton of photos and wanted to get a good feel for the town before embarking on a game journey particular.

The source said Rockstar is “serious” about a game with a Japanese setting, even going so far as to trademark the names GTA: Toyko, GTA: Bogota and, mysteriously, GTA: Sin City in 2003. days of GTA 3 and Vice City, however, the road system was seen as a problem and was just one of the reasons the idea was eventually scrapped.

GTA 6 rumors are pretty extensive right now, so let’s start with some historical information. So far, GTA games have been installed in the following locations:

  • Liberty City – GTA 3, GTA 4, Lost and Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony
  • Vice City – GTA Vice City
  • San Andreas / Los Santos – GTA: San Andreas, GTA 5

If history repeats itself, Vice City or Liberty City seem like the most likely candidates for a return… but it’s possible the game will explore new locations, which seems more likely in light of the expectations set by GTA Online, which means the world will win. t become smaller. Speaking to Rockstar’s Leslie Benzies via the GTA GTAVoclock YouTube show in 2013, GTA Online’s passion is “This world, World. We will constantly add new things, new places to it,” he said.

What will be the story of GTA 6?

As for the story of GTA 6, there are a lot of rumors in this installment, from multiple heroes to just one male hero.

The 2020 Reddit leak suggested it would be set in the 1970s/80s and feature a single male protagonist, a future drug lord named “Ricardo”. Another key character named “Kacey” is also part of the story. According to this leak, you’ll start as a grunt running from Vice City to the new greater South American region as a cocaine smuggler before hooking up with major drug lords and working your way through the multi-player storyline. cities. . Apparently, a young Martin Madrazo will look like his father, who was a big drug lord at the time. You do missions for the Madrazo family that have hit other gangs. The story will also tackle issues such as HIV and the migrant crisis as happened in the 1970s/80s.

Fireden’s previous leak said it would feature four main characters, two cops and two gang members. This leak indicates that the main storyline diverges after a while, with the crime side having a sort of sandbox-building empire (think Fallout 4 meets The Sims), while the crime side is more of an action game. traditional. A quick tour of LA Noire.

The latest leaks from June 2021 indicate that the current version of Vice City will feature several playable heroes, including a Fortnite with the game map that grows and changes over time, and a “tech-savvy woman”. Schreier has since confirmed nearly all of those claims, saying on Twitter (via Resetera).

Interestingly, Rockstar hasn’t ruled out using multiple heroes for future efforts by mimicking the GTA 5 trio. Speaking after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, which featured a single playable character in Arthur Morgan, Rockstar told jeuxactu.com: “Maybe we’ll start over with another game, but in Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s this guy and you. He’ll share his adventure.” .

What did Rockstar say about GTA 6 in the recordings?

The former president of Rockstar North teased the series’ next entry in a 2013 four-part interview with Develop magazine, which started the rumor online:

“We don’t know what GTA 6 will be, but we have some ideas,” Benzies said in the interview. “We have about 45 years of ideas that we want to build. We will choose the good ones. It comes from the idea first. Where to install is the first question. This then defines the missions; You do different things in Los Angeles than in New York or Miami. The map and the story work together, and the story is a basic flow of how the mission works so you can build up its layers.

Of course, Benzies hasn’t said much about how GTA 6 will shape up, leaving Rockstar North in pretty tough shape. However, Rockstar is unlikely to break the tried and true development process of the GTA series, where world building comes first, with characters and structures aligned at the top. GTA 5 was created by over 1000 developers based in studios around the world, so changing the model would be a bold move.

Will the PC version of GTA 6 be released?

GTA 6 - a screenshot from GTA 5

At this point, it’s pretty clear that GTA 6 will be a PS5 and Xbox Series X release, especially in light of the next-gen delivery of GTA 5 for console and PC. However, knowing if a GTA 6 PC port will be released alongside its console counterparts isn’t that easy.

GTA 5 and GTA 4 have finally arrived on PC, so you can hope there’s a GTA 6 PC port as well. There might not be a simultaneous launch, but that extra polishing and development time has worn It’s paid off so far, so hopefully PC fans are willing to wait a bit longer.
