There are several ways to create your own Firefox themes, but the easiest is Mozilla’s newest solution: Firefox Color. It provides a simple interface for designing your own themes and lets you package, export, and publish them to the Firefox Marketplace.

How to download Firefox Color Theme Creator

You can use Firefox Color on the web, but the add-on is the easiest way to build your themes and test them in real time in Firefox.

Open Firefox and go to color.firefox.com.

When you arrive, you can play around with Firefox Color a bit, but you should get the add-on to start with. Choose Install Firefox Color in the middle of the page to download the plugin.

How do I use Firefox Color to create Firefox themes?

Now that you have the plugin, you can start creating and saving your own custom themes. Everything is simple and graphical, so there’s no need to get too technical.

You will arrive on a page with the colors of the different elements in your browser window. Editing them will change them in real time, both in the preview and in your browser itself.

If you have something in mind, you can start right away. If you’re looking for inspiration, you can upload a background image through Firefox Color. Try picking colors from this picture.

As you fill in each color, you will see in the preview which parts of the window are affected.

Choose Custom backgrounds tongue. Here you can choose from a Mozilla pattern or upload your own background image for your theme.

If you plan to use your own background image, you must trim it to fit the Firefox background. Choose Or add yours To choose your own background image

Mozilla has yet to release exact specs for Firefox Color, but 650px by 3000px seems like a good guess.

After adding your image, use the positioning controls to adjust the placement of the background in your Firefox window.

Once you’re happy with your theme, you can save it to automatically apply whenever you want. Choose Heart in the upper right corner of the window to save your theme.

Firefox Color will start by notifying you that you are going to create a compressed export of your theme. Choose Following.
