moderator: When you start a Clubhouse room, you are the moderator. You are the speaker and you can add, remove and mute other people in the room. If you are a moderator, you can mute and unmute.

You can start a room open to everyone, people you follow, or people you choose.

speaker: The moderator and the first user to enter a room automatically become the President. If you are the speaker, you can mute and unmute.

listener: If you join a current Clubhouse room, you become an Auditor. Your microphone is muted by default. If you want to talk, you can raise your hand with the icon below. If you are asked to speak, you become the speaker and can mute and unmute your own voice.

How to mute and unmute the clubhouse

Now that you know how talking works in a Clubhouse room, it’s easy to mute and unmute when needed.

If you are a moderator or speaker, tap to mute yourself. microphone icon at bottom right.

This icon will then display a red line on it. This indicates that you have been muted.

To reactivate you microphone icon again. This will remove the red line and you’ll be ready to talk again.

The microphone icon is disabled and enabled in the Clubhouse app.

If you see the microphone icon with a red line on someone’s profile icon in a room, that person is muted.
