Luke Cage showrunner reacts to apparent Disney Plus tribute removal: “Why do this?”
Luke Cage executive producer Cheo Hodari Coker has responded to the apparent removal of a tribute to Reg E. Cathey on Disney Plus.
Cathey played Cage’s father on the show and died aged 59 before the second season aired on Netflix. The tribute was actually at the end of the Season 2 finale and it read, “In Memoriam Reg E. Cathey Forward Always”
“I mean, why are you doing this?” cocker wrote excitement. “Reg E. Cathey was part of the heart and soul of season two. We didn’t feel compelled to dedicate the season to him just because he died – we felt compelled because we love him and he’s a driving force.”
This isn’t the first time a Marvel show has missed a tribute on Disney Plus. The Punisher season 2 finale does not include a Stan Lee tribute from the Netflix series. Disney is working to restore the two homages that were unintentionally left out of the episodes.
A different, less violent version of Falcon and the Winter Soldier was also accidentally uploaded to the service, but has since been patched.
Luke Cage is one of those Marvel Netflix shows that has moved from this streamer to Disney Plus as part of the new Defenders Saga. It’s not yet known if the shows are MCU canon – but Charlie Cox’s Daredevil appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin had a role in Hawkeye.
