Luke Skywalker’s Most Important Moment is Being Weakened By New Canon
DARTH VADER #23- THE SHADOW’S SHADOWAn epic new story begins as DARTH VADER embarks upon a new mission in partnership with a sworn enemy—but who’s leading whom to doom? And what happens when the QUEEN’S SHADOW learns the deepest secret of the Dark Lord of the Sith? Plus: the shocking return of a face from Vader’s most distant past!
Seeing as how these refugees were once slaves on Tatooine that Sabé freed, she’s giving the Dark Lord the chance to prove Padmé right that there’s still good in Vader while also honoring his mother. This will essentially mean that the groundwork for Vader’s redemption was already kickstarted by Sabé before Luke tries to reach his father during the Battle of Endor. While the new canon certainly strengthens Vader’s overall narrative arc across the original trilogy in relation to his past in the prequel trilogy, there’s no denying that it comes at the expense of one of Luke Skywalker’s biggest moments.
As a result, it certainly seems as though Star Wars fans might be divided over whether this new chapter in Darth Vader’s story is worth diminishing Luke’s role in Return of the Jedi. While Luke Skywalker is still the one who ultimately brings his father back, he’s no longer solely responsible for Darth Vader’s redemption thanks to Sabé bringing his past front and center in this new issue. The full Darth Vader #23 releases June 1st.
Darth Vader #23 will be available from Marvel Comics in June.
