We love exploring and creating different Mother’s Day crafts for kids (check out our Rocket Mother’s Day crafts and make a Twist and Pop Mother’s Day card).
We are happy to guide you through the process of making this craft. This is a wonderful surprise peony flower!
That’s right, it hides a hidden photo or message inside.
We are crazy about peonies.
They are huge and luxurious with dense flower petals and they smell so good.
We call them flower balls and they are definitely one of our favorite flowers.
How about making one for your mom and telling her you love her deeply and dearly?
How to make paper flowers for Mother’s Day?
What do you need:
- light red card stock
- red color paper
- green paper
- brown card stock
- gum
- the scissors
- hot glue (+ a hot glue gun)
- pencil
- bow compass
- stapler circle
- a photo of you laughing or teasing (you can make this flower without a photo if you want, but it’s the photo that makes this peony a surprise peony)
- black lining
- Pipette
Step by step instructions
Flower
Take the compass and draw three circles on the light red deck of cards.
The diameters of the circles should be 8.6 cm, 7.6 cm and 5.6 cm.
Cut out the circles.
Photograph
Take a picture and hit your smiley or silly face. The diameter of the circular punch should be 3.8 cm.
If you don’t have a circular staple of this size, make a circle on the photo with the spring compass, then cut out the circle.
If you don’t want to use a photo, cut out a light red circle instead. But photography is a must to make this peony a surprise peony.
leaves
Cut out twenty-five red circles. Again, if you don’t have a circular punch of this size, create the loops with the spring compass and then cut it out.
Fold the circles as shown in the picture. Be sure to bend them less, not in half.
Apply some glue to the smaller (folded) parts of the circles. Take the biggest light red circle and start sticking those red circles into it.
You need to stick eight small red circles above the larger light red circle as shown.
Press the circles inward to get the inner flower part you see in the picture.
Repeat this step with the other two light red circles. Add seven red circles to the larger light red circle, then add six circles to the smaller light red circle.
Then turn them off. We are now left with four red circles on the table.
Glue these four red circles around the photo circle (or if you’ve decided not to use a photo, glue them around the light red circle).
These are the four flower pieces we have made so far.
Go ahead and glue them inside each other. This is how you create the flower.
Isn’t it beautiful? Now close the flower and set it aside.
Stem
Take the green colored paper and cut four long strips about 1 cm wide.
Apply some glue to the first strip.
Start wrapping this strip around the straw.
Once you are done with the first strip, continue with the second.
Our bar is ready.
Take the two remaining green strips and wrap them around the ends of the rod.
Complete! Now let’s move on to the leaves.
sheets
Draw some peony leaves on green paper. Make two branches with three leaves each.
Cut the leaves with scissors.
Now take a branch with leaves and draw two more times on the green paper.
Draw smaller leaves inside larger leaves.
Cut the branches with the smallest leaves.
Let’s see now. You should have two large branches with leaves and two smaller branches.
Glue the small branches with leaves on the larger ones.
base
Take the circle punch and cut a circle out of the brown deck of cards.
If you don’t have a 1.5 inch diameter circle punch, take the spring compass, make a circle, then cut it out.
Now these are all the parts we need to start assembling the flower.
First, we glue the stem to the back of the flower using hot glue.
After the glue has hardened, we continue to glue the branches with the leaves to the trunk.
Then we apply glue to the lower part of the handle and glue it to the brown circle. Complete!
Now open the flower and write a short message on it like “I love you mom” or “Mom you are the best” or “Thank you mom for everything”.
This step is optional.
You don’t need to write anything in the flower if you don’t want to.
The last thing to do is close the flower.
Your paper flower for Mother’s Day is complete!
We got our peonies back! Yeah !
Now we are waiting for our mothers to come home and give them these surprise peonies.
Aren’t they so cute? We love them! We hope you like them too!
Happy Mother’s Day!
