Netflix has canceled another of its original shows.

Raising Dion star Sammi Haney has confirmed that the superhero drama will not be returning for a third season, expressing her gratitude for the “incredible support” from viewers over the past few years.

“Sad to say Raising Dion has been cancelled,” the young actress who played Esperanza on the show wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for all the amazing support we have received from our amazing fans. Season 2 was a success, equal to season 1, if only judging by the number of people who watched and wanted to season 3!

Based on the comic by Dennis Liu, Raising Dion follows Nicole Warren (Alisha Wainwright), a single mother who discovers her son Dion (Ja’Siah Young) has superpowers. The pair must work together to control Dion’s safety and new abilities.

Raising Dion season 1 also focused on Nicole’s investigation into her husband’s death, leading her to discover that Dion had inherited her powers from her late father (Michael B Jordan) – and the latter his At an Aurora event in Iceland. After its release on Netflix in October 2019, it was well received and scored 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2 was released in February 2022. Each episode also featured Griffin Robert Faulkner, Ali Ahn, Gavin Munn, Jazmyn Simon, Rome Flynn, Deidre Lovejoy, and Jason Ritter.

The cancellation came after Netflix reported its first loss of subscribers. Many critics have cited some of the loss of Netflix continuing to cancel shows before they fully bloom. Other recent cancellations include several anime shows and a sequel to Will Smith’s Bright.
