Pinocchio Trailer Teaser Reveals Live-Action Jiminy Cricket & Blue Fairy
The first Pinocchio teaser trailer arrives revealing the first-look at Disney’s latest live-action film adaptation. The new film will be based on the 1883 Italian book and 1940 Disney movie revolving around the titular wooden puppet who comes to life thanks to the powers of The Blue Fairy and invited to become a real boy by remaining truthful. As he strives to become a real boy, Pinocchio will encounter a variety of troublesome characters and learn of his nose’s ability to grow every time he lies.
Tom Hanks is leading the cast of Pinocchio as the puppet’s creator Geppetto alongside Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio, Cynthia Erivo as The Blue Fairy, Luke Evans as The Coachman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the voice of Jiminy Cricket, Keegan-Michael Key and Lorraine Bracco. Development on the live-action Pinocchio was first announced in 2015 though languished for nearly five years as a number of writers and directors came and went on the project, including Paddington‘s Paul King, before Robert Zemeckis signed on to co-write and direct. With production on the film having wrapped in 2021, audiences are finally getting their first glimpse at the live-action Pinocchio movie.

While the Pinocchio trailer teaser doesn’t fully reveal the titular puppet, the first looks at the live-action Jiminy Cricket and Blue Fairy offer exciting glimpses of what’s to come from the Disney remake. Two-time Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo looks to be bringing her own unique take to the iconic Blue Fairy character, namely with her own rendition of the Cliff Edwards’ “When You Wish Upon A Star.” The track, which would become the official song used during Disney’s studio logos for films and TV shows, was originally sung by Jiminy Cricket in the 1940 Pinocchio animated movie, pointing to one of the changes made for the live-action film.
2022 is gearing up to be the year of Pinocchio as three different adaptations of the iconic children’s book are coming out at various points this year. This past March saw the release of an animated film starring Pauly Shore as the titular doll while the Disney version will swiftly be followed by Netflix’s stop-motion adaptation from Guillermo del Toro and starring Gregory Mann as Pinocchio and Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket. While audiences await the arrival of Robert Zemeckis’ Pinocchio, they can look forward to the first trailer premiering this week.
