Sasha Banks Leaving WWE for AEW Would Be Biggest Defection Yet
She is only 30, arguably half a decade away from reaching her prime as a professional wrestler. Her pedigree speaks for itself, as she’s one of WWE’s four horsewomen, a multi-time world champion, and was at one point the standard-bearer for women’s wrestling in NXT. She’s already cashed in on her crossover potential by appearing in The Mandalorian, is related to Snoop Dogg, and brings a ton of product awareness with her. A month or so ago, suggesting that The Boss could end up on TNT under the AEW colors would have been silly. The wrestling business is fast and fluid, however, and it seems like the tides could be pushing Banks towards a new All Elite frontier.
One of the most frequent criticisms of AEW over the last two years has been how they’ve built and booked the women’s division. It’s felt stagnant for quite some time, where there has been a lot of treadmill booking for the women on the brand. AEW additions like Toni Storm certainly help, but they’ve struggled to create new stars (outside of Jade Cargill) for the brand. Whereas the men’s division has built up the likes of Darby Allin, Jungle Boy, and HOOK, they haven’t been able to do the same for the women. If Sasha Banks were to leave WWE for AEW, it would certainly go a long way toward helping rehabilitate the latter’s long-neglected women’s division.
