Star Wars Fan Film Shows The Aftermath of the Battle of Endor
A recent Star Wars fan film shows the aftermath of the Battle of Endor. The final film of the original trilogy, Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, showed the conclusion of a civil war between the Galactic Empire and a rag-tag group of Rebels. After two films of science-fiction fantasy action, the Rebels seemingly defeated the Empire at the Battle of Endor, after a two-prong attack against the Emperor’s second Death Star and the Imperial base in the jungle on one of Endor’s moons. Princess Leia and Han Solo, with the help of the small yet mighty Ewoks, destroyed the space station’s shield generator on the ground while Lando Calrissian, Nien Nunb, and Wedge Antilles took out the Death Star above.

The battle proved crucial for the downfall of the Empire. It saw the destruction of their most terrifying weapon and the death of their leader, the evil Emperor Palpatine. However, the Empire still had fleets positioned throughout the galaxy, troops on multiple planets, and government control. The Battle of Endor was a resounding win, but it wasn’t the end of the war.
A new Star Wars fan film created by Noble Engine on YouTube shows a portion of the continuing fight of the Rebellion against the Empire after the Battle of Endor. Titled Star Wars: X-Wing, the exciting five-minute short film depicts a chaotic battle above the towers on the capital city-planet of Coruscant. In the fan film, the Rebel fleet takes on a gauntlet of Star Destroyers and other capital ships as a pair of X-Wing fighters slalom through the mayhem while shooting down TIE fighters. Check out the riveting CGI short below.

The film’s namesake comes from the fan-favorite space dogfight simulator Star Wars: X-Wing. The popular PC game placed the player in the cockpit of an X-Wing as they battled countless TIE fighters and Imperial capital ships during the Rebellion. Noble Engine was also inspired by the Michael A. Stackpole book Star Wars: X-Wing – The Krytos Trap. This novel told the story of the Rebels’ successful occupation of Coruscant after a daring attack. However, the book was released before Disney’s takeover of the franchise and now falls under the non-canon Legends umbrella.
Although the Battle of Endor resulted in the Empire’s leader and the destruction of their greatest fleet, the war was far from won for the Rebels. Not much of what happened after has been depicted on screen. Only quick shots of celebrations on various planets, including Coruscant, were shown during the final moments of Return of the Jedi: Special Edition. However, new Star Wars canon books, such as Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath series, tell the story of Leia and the New Republic trying to create a new government in the Empire’s ashes while simultaneously tracking down remnants of Imperial forces. For now, the only way to watch the gripping final battles between the Rebels and Empire is in the many well-made Star Wars fan films.
