Who Is El Muerto? Sony’s Spider-Man Villain Universe Character Explained

Juan Carlos Estrada Sánchez comes from a family of wrestlers known as El Muerto, who wore mystical masks that gave them strength. Juan Carlos was trained by his father, Marcus Estrada de la García, but was uninterested in following his family’s wrestling legacy. As part of the “ritual” of shedding the mantle of El Muerto, each wrestler must prove themselves in a match against their oppressor, El Dorado, to survive and maintain their strength. However, as Juan Carlos never wanted to be El Muerto, he recoiled in horror and refused to fight El Dorado, so the latter tried to kill him, but Marcus sacrificed himself to save his son’s life. . Out of respect for Marcus’ bravery, El Dorado gave Juan Carlos ten years to travel, train, and be brave, and then he would have to duel and unmask a masked wrestler.

Ten years later, El Muerto traveled to New York to fight and defeat Spider-Man, so J. approached Jonah Jameson to host a charity event with a wrestling match. Jameson agreed, hoping that El Muerto would ultimately be the one to unmask Spider-Man, and El Muerto was close to achieving that. As El Muerto was about to take off Spider-Man’s mask, the webcaster accidentally poisoned him with a needle that flew out of his wrist. El Muerto was paralyzed and sent to the hospital, but that was not the end of his troubles. El Muerto’s time was running out and El Dorado came to kill him, but Spider-Man saved him and fought El Dorado until El Muerto recovered and finally proved himself worthy of the mask. As El Muerto battles El Dorado, Spider-Man creates a reagent that dissolves El Dorado’s armor, leaving him vulnerable to injury and prompting him to leave.

The Puerto Rican rapper, singer, actor and professional wrestler has been announced as the star. El Muerto Sony’s panel at CinemaCon in April 2022 made him the first Latino lead actor in a Marvel movie. Although Bad Bunny is best known for his musical career (a combination of Latin trap and reggeaton), he has also made his way to the big screen and television in a recurring role. Narcos: Mexico (playing Arturo ‘Kitty’ Paez) and would have a stage-stealing performance FAST TRAIN. Despite Sony’s long list of Marvel projects, there aren’t many details on most of them, and El Muerto is one of them. Sony announced the project at Cinema Con, but didn’t specify the casting of Bad Bunny as Juan Carlos, but since it’s set to hit theaters on January 12, 2024, it’s expected to go into production late/early 2022. It’s 2023, so it shouldn’t be long for more details to emerge. given El Muerto He doesn’t feature prominently in the comics, this will give Sony the freedom to build his story and explore his talents and strengths, but it’s also clear that the studio’s past mistakes (i.e. say morbid) for El Muerto and the rest of the movies planned by Sony will work.
