Why A Godzilla & Kong Rematch In GvK 2 Is A Terrible Idea

The fact that the MonsterVerse has already done this fight means that it can’t avoid a disappointing ending – no matter who it chooses as the winner. Audiences have already seen Godzilla beat Kong, so bringing the two back just so that Godzilla can defeat him again feels rather pointless. And the opposite outcome would be even worse. Kong somehow triumphing over Godzilla after Godzilla vs. Kong proved that the latter is the superior Titan would ruin how their original fight played out. Also, a tie wouldn’t be any better, as it too would hurt Godzilla vs. Kong’s ending, especially since it gave Godzilla a total victory over the giant ape.

Instead of changing or repeating the fight between Godzilla and Kong, it would make a lot more sense if Godzilla vs. Kong 2 focused on a proper team-up between the Titans. Though they did work together against Mechagodzilla, this was a short-lived alliance that lasted no more than a few minutes. Godzilla vs. Kong 2 could see the two on the same side for the majority of the movie. Another way it could mix things up is the addition of more Titans. Since Godzilla vs. Kong had to focus on the titular showdown, it had little room for more monsters, but if the franchise has moved on, the sequel can launch a full-on, modern-day Titan War.
