Withings’ New ScanWatch Horizon Fuses Luxury With Fitness Tech

Withings’ new hybrid device is coming May 17

Electronics company Withings has unveiled its new hybrid smart device that combines the look of a luxury dive watch with health monitoring technology.

ScanWatch Horizon shares many features from other fitness bands, such as ECG, sleep monitoring score, and smart notifications displayed on the watch face. What’s different, however, is that its design allows for unique features such as the bezel that acts as a heart monitor.

The bezel is the ring surrounding the watch face, and the Horizon smartwatch comes with sensors that can measure heart rate and blood oxygen levels. You can do the latter with a PPG meter that emits red and infrared light on your wrist and check your readings on the watch face or through the accompanying Health Mate app.

The app can also provide information about your sleep quality and exercise habits when used in conjunction with the different watch modes (running mode, surfing mode, etc.) accessible by turning the crown. And being a diver’s watch, the ScanWatch can withstand up to 100m (about 330ft) underwater.

ScanWatch Horizon will be available in two colors on May 17: green or blue. You can buy it on launch day from the official Withings website or from Best Buy, starting at $499.95.
